Systems Interface together with our valued partner in Sri Lanka, Queens Group, were awarded this turnkey contract to provide Navigational Instruments to the newly built Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport, Hambantota. The airport in the south of Sri Lanka will serve at the countries second International Airport complying with ICAO standards, and officially opened in March 2013.

The project consisted of the supply, installation and commissioning by Systems Interface of a Doppler VHF Omni-Directional Range (DVOR) together with a dual High Power and Low Power Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) a CAT I Instrument Landing System (ILS), and Middle Marker (MM).
Systems Interface were responsible for overall project management, including supervision on all Civil Works, ILS Modelling, Factory Training, Remote Control/Remote Maintenance Monitoring and full System Integration.
The Airport will see 1 million passengers, 45,000 Mt of cargo and 30,000 Aircraft movement per annum and will play a huge role allowing tourists to visit the island, whilst the main International Airport in Colombo, Bandaranaike International Airport, undergoes major runway relay works later this year. The new international airport is expected to expand the local aviation industry whilst being a catalyst for the country’s economic development enabling international trade, tourism, vocational training and employment.
