Jersey Airport’s Business Continuity Plan required a resilient operational capability to mitigate the effects of a catastrophic event in the existing ATC Building. In such an emergency its new ATC Contingency Facility will allow Radar Services to be provided in the Channel Islands Airspace with minimal interruption from within a building close to the airport.

Ports of Jersey employed Systems Interface to deliver this turnkey project that included an ATC Operations Centre plus Equipment Room. Systems Interface were involved from the project’s inception by providing full system design. The Contingency Facility became the first fully IP connected system of its type in the UK, and the first true Remote/Digital Tower implementations to go into operation in the UK.

The Systems Interface project team ran the equipment procurement process, writing and issuing specifications and jointly evaluating multiple tenders along with the Jersey Airport management team.

Following this major investment by Ports of Jersey they can now manage air traffic, provide meteorological services and oversee the management of communication and navigation services within Channel Islands airspace.  Following operational approval, it was the first airport in the world to receive the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Air Navigation Service Provider Certificate following an award ceremony at the joint US Federal Aviation and EASA Safety Conference.
